The 24 Hour Rule

There's this one rule I have for myself that drastically changed my life for the better once I put it into place; I call it "the 24 hour rule." It all started towards the end of high school when I played baseball because I would get so upset on the occasions that I would strike out, even if I'd just smacked a double, stole a base and scored a run just 30 minutes earlier. If I had 1 bad game I would be upset all the way up until the next game and it affected my performance negatively.

This rule is quite simple, really. When something rather negative occurs in my life, I allow myself to get as upset and mad as I feel like... but after 24 hours, I MUST get over it and start seeing the bright side or that would mean I broke the 24 hour rule.

In fact, I got put to the test yesterday. I was upset for a few hours but by the end of the day I was back to feeling like I'm on top of the world

Why not just start seeing the bright side right away? Well, with the unpredictability of life, sometimes that is not reality. Sometimes I am successful in doing this right away and that's great but nobody is perfect (striving for perfection is exhausting and unattainable anyway) . So, don"t be too hard on yourself, take 24 hours. It's all good.

Using this rule gives you the power to get past any and every difficulty that's thrown your way.
