Heroes Evolve

Over time, heroes evolve.

When I was a young boy, I loved baseball, and I wanted to be a baseball player. Derek Jeter, whose career was just taking off, was my hero at that time. I began to own his famous fist pump and turnaround jump throw from the hole in shortstop. Then, it was Alex Rodriguez with his 54 home runs in 2007. I even copied his high socks.

But my needs evolved, and so did my aspirations. I was in a tough spot, and after reading Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins, he became my hero. At a very young age, I leveraged neuro-linguistic programming to my advantage.

Now, my needs and aspirations have evolved once again. I love writing, and I love doing it every day. So, naturally, my hero is a man who has written a blog every day for nearly 20 years (7,000+ posts), in addition to 17 books, many of them bestsellers. His name is Seth Godin, and all you have to do is read one of his posts to realize that he may be one of the smartest people in the world. His writing is so effective because he teaches in parables.

As our needs and aspirations evolve, so do the very people we look up to, our heroes, and by extension, sometimes our actions evolve right along with them.
